fizzy happiness
today at work i was talking to customer who had brought in a bag of books she needed a box for. the bag had a print from a painting. i asked her if it was van gogh, and she said it was and that she'd gotten it at a grocery store in amsterdam. i told her i studied there and she said "i didn't get this at the grocery stores they have everywhere... what are they called?" "albert heijn?" "right! i got it a spar. they have all kinds of cool bags. i get them for people as gifts and they love them." i told her i would check that out if i go back. i asked her if she goes their often and she said yes, since she's a flight attendant. we ended up talking about how london is her favorite, and how if i liked amsterdam i would like it, too.
this conversation completely made my day. she even asked what i'd studied and cared about the answer. the best part about working retail is being able to have a real, meaningful, conversation with a complete stranger, and the worst part is having to say "it was great talking to you" and leave my new friend alone.
